Process Steps Choosing and Developing a Topic

Step 1

A great topic is one that kids will be interested in…pick a current, real–world issue. Do some looking around on the Internet to get an idea of what kinds of resources are available for your topic. Gather a lot of information from different sources using your online searching skills.

Load all your info and ideas into NoteTaker…that will keep everything in one place while you keep collecting. Dig, dig, dig…remember to keep an eye out for Websites and resources that would be great tools and places about your topic for the kids when they are on the WebQuest. When an idea for your Essential Question pops into your head, stick it in your NoteTaker.

Once you suspect you might have enough info on your topic and enough resource materials stashed away in NoteTaker, organize all your ideas in an Excel spreadsheet. Categorize each idea, resource link, note, etc. using columns on the spreadsheet for each category.
